About Us
Brendan Murphy
Managing Director
My name’s Brendan and I am the Managing Director at Business Documents New Zealand. My business partner Cathie, and I established the business in 2019 after accumulating over 30 years of experience in the industry, working for other companies. I’ve dedicated my career to helping business owners across New Zealand and Australia with their terms and conditions, amassing more than 10,000 hours of hands-on experience in nearly every industry.
My passion for this business comes from working closely with hundreds of business owners who have faced challenging situations due to poorly drafted payment terms and conditions, and also contracts. On my journey I’ve witnessed businesses facing anxiety, stress, and uncertainty about potential outcomes. Conversely, I’ve seen the empowerment that comes from having strong contracts in place and this is why I have dedicated my knowledge and experience to help and support businesses. I strive to produce the most practical, usable documents that mitigate risk and ensure compliance with industry body or legislative requirements. The biggest compliment that I receive is when clients tell me that my involvement “helps them sleep better at night knowing this area has been taken care of!”
On a personal note, I like hard graft. I’m a husband, a father and a grandfather of two wee geniuses, caretaker of a 12-acre property in the South Wairarapa, and guardian of Tina Turner, our French Bulldog. In my spare time I like tinkering in the shed, racing cars, watching motorsport, rugby, and golf. I am also a keen mountain biker and enjoy the outdoors with my wife, Barbara.
I look forward to every opportunity to connect with other business owners to enjoy an open conversation around their credit management challenges and discussing the solutions I could offer.
Cathie Lumb
Legal Executive
I have over 15 years’ experience writing Terms and Conditions for many different industries across New Zealand & Australia, I’ve been involved in the creation of thousands of documents in that time from Builders, Plumbers, Electricians to Accountants, Surveyors and Retail/Wholesale suppliers to name a few, basically any business that needs Terms and Conditions to provide their business with a security layer to protect and limit their risk exposure. My experience gives me a greater understanding of the practical challenges in addition to the legal ones.
My previous history had me working in the insurance industry (Life, Income Protection and Health Insurance) and quite a few years working directly with Financial Planners. My qualifications as a Legal Executive gives me the ability to deal with contract law and provide recommendations based on my knowledge and experience, any matters that require a legal opinion and/or written advice are passed to our legal counsel.
On a personal note, I am happily married to my husband Mike, we have two wonderful children, Matt & Sarah, sadly now both residing in Australia, so a trip once a year is needed to get the full-on nana and grandad fix with our four beautiful young granddaughters, time goes so quickly.
Exercise is important to me, keeps the mind and body healthy, I like to walk (many half marathons under my belt), listening to music, the gym and water aerobics plus catching up with friends and cake decorating on the side for family & friends.
